Housing Authority honored for its help with rental assistance program

was recognized Monday for its invaluable assistance in administering the county’s COVID-19 rental assistance program.
It received the 2022 Partner of the Year award from the McHenry County Community Development Department for its enthusiastic embrace of the McHenry County Emergency Utility and Rental Assistance Program.
The program, which to date has helped more than 700 households, was created to prevent COVID-related homelessness by helping renters pay their rent and/or utilities if they are having trouble making ends meet or have fallen behind in their payments.

 

Student loan repayment pause extended to September

The Biden administration last week extended its pause on federal student loan payments through Aug. 31.
This marks the sixth extension of the pause, which was set to expire May 1.
More than 43 million borrowers owing $1.6 trillion are affected by the pause, which was first put into place in spring 2020 as part of the COVID-19 pandemic relief bill.

County, state agencies holding employer disability workshop

Are you an employer struggling with the ongoing worker shortage? Workers with disabilities and different abilities can be your answer.
The McHenry County Workforce Network and McHenry County College are partnering to hold a workshop from 9 to 10 a.m. Friday, April 22. Topics will include the benefits of hiring workers with disabilities, how to find them, and state and local incentives and resources.

A free job fair, open to people with any type of disability, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon April 27, at the MCC Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane, McHenry.

 

Senior center tech program gets a boost from Advance McHenry County

The Harvard Community Senior Center is receiving $234,000 through Advance McHenry County to help hundreds of socially isolated seniors connect in a technological world.
The grant, approved last month by the County Board, will cover the cost of equipment, data, fees and training to augment the center’s Senior TechConnect program.
As a result, seniors utilizing the center will be able to connect with their families, friends, medical providers, community services, and health and wellness programs.

 

ICC offering smart tips for hiring a household mover

With spring being prime moving season in Illinois, the Illinois Commerce Commission is encouraging movers to do their homework before hiring a company and packing boxes.
Consumers can click here or call 217-782-6448 to check whether a household goods mover is properly licensed in Illinois.
The ICC also offers tips that include acquiring a written estimate, getting loss and damage protection in writing, and beginning a search for a mover at least six weeks in advance. Click here to learn more.

 

Start your engines for the CASA of McHenry County Road Rally

CASA of McHenry County is inviting you to hop in your car and embark on a fun-filled scavenger hunt for a good cause!
The CASA Road Rally is taking place, rain or shine, on Saturday, April 23! You and your team can pick your start time anytime between 9 a.m and 3 p.m. – the hunt takes between an hour and a half and two hours to complete.
Besides having fun solving clues and completing challenges, participating will greatly help CASA’s mission to serve as advocates for foster children in the court system.
The fee is $35 per car, and you can click here to register and learn more.
