Johnny Appleseed Festival adds inaugural Taste of Downtown

 

Crystal Lake’s biggest one-day event is back – even bigger and better!

The 32nd annual Johnny Appleseed Festival returns this Saturday, Sept. 27 to downtown Crystal Lake. It’s got all the fun family-friendly events you know and love, with some exciting new features thrown in!

This year, the festival is a true street fest, and has been relocated to Williams Street and part of Brink Street. What’s more, it now includes the first-ever Taste of Downtown Crystal Lake, featuring the different flavors of some of downtown’s signature restaurants, including live music and drinks!

The Johnny Appleseed Festival takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the Taste of Downtown Crystal Lake continuing until 8 p.m. Admission is free, with food and drink available for purchase.

Join the McHenry County Economic Development Corp. for an evening of celebration, connection and inspiration!

Mark your calendars for the MCEDC’s Annual Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 12, and be part of one of the county’s premier business events. The dinner, now in its 15th year, brings together more than 400 business and community leaders to celebrate the people and partnerships that drive McHenry County’s economic success.

This year’s keynote speaker is Wendell Dallas, President and CEO of Nicor Gas, who will share insights on how the state’s largest natural gas provider is energizing business expansion, transforming the workforce, investing in communities and supporting McHenry County’s and Illinois’ long-term vitality.

The dinner takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Crystal Lake Holiday Inn, 800 S. Route 31. Tickets are on sale now, and sponsorships are still available.

Goodbye, summer, hello fall – and harvest fun is best of all.

McHenry County’s renowned summer festival season has come to an end, but fall is just as special. Our apple orchards and corn mazes are already open, and as the air grows cooler, you can add pumpkin patches, hay rides, and fall walks to check out nature’s splendor as the leaves change color.

Move McHenry County Challenge offers cardio for community causes

If you’re a runner, jogger or walker, you’re going to love Naturally McHenry County’s newest challenge!

Registration is now open for the Move McHenry County Challenge! Throughout 2026, participants who complete 12 of 26 participating races will receive a finisher medal and win other great runner swag! And because every race benefits area nonprofits, you’ll be helping your community while staying healthy and active.

The registration fee is $35, which includes a free t-shirt if you sign up by Oct. 31, as well as a $5 discount on the registration fee for selected races. You can find a list of qualifying races on the registration website.

Get out and enjoy outdoor farmers markets before the season ends

Time is still on your side if you want to enjoy McHenry County’s awesome outdoor farmers markets – but don’t wait too long!

The Crystal Lake, Dole Mansion, Woodstock, Huntley and Wonder Lake markets are still open and going strong, but will be closing for the season next month. But don’t despair – several of them hold indoor markets through the winter.

Don’t let time slip away – pay them a visit to eat fresh and shop local!

 

 

Light the Night returns to illuminate McHenry Riverwalk

 

Once again, Miller Point Park and the McHenry Riverwalk will be ablaze with light for the annual Light the Night event.

Light the Night takes place from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. this Saturday, Sept. 27. Admission is free, with food and drink available for purchase. Enjoy walking amongst fire-lit globes, peruse the Riverwalk Shoppes and support their budding local entrepreneurs, enjoy live music, and enjoy evening fireworks!

This beloved community tradition promises magic, memories, and moments you’ll be talking about long after the lights fade.

Be sure to bring a chair or a blanket to sit on to enjoy the music. Tents, coolers and dogs are not allowed.
