MCEDC Member Spotlight: Shane Nerby, Vice President of Operations, JA Group

For nearly 15 years, Shane Nerby has helped drive the growth and operations of JA Group, a family-owned transportation, logistics, and warehouse company rooted in McHenry County and dedicated to delivering reliable service solutions across the Midwest and nationwide. As Vice President of Operations, Shane oversees two of the company’s four divisions, JA Frate and JA Logistics, helping lead operations that support businesses throughout northern Illinois, southern Wisconsin, and beyond. Shane’s journey with The JA Group began in 2011 as a messenger. Through hard work, determination, and a desire to understand every aspect of the business, he steadily advanced through a variety of roles before stepping into his current leadership position.  

Founded in 1971 by Doug Jennings, JA Frate started with a single Saab wagon delivering boxes to O’Hare Airport. Over the decades, the company has expanded significantly and now operates more than 250 trailers and 100 power units across the region. In addition to JA Frate and JA Logistics, The JA Group also includes JA Nationwide and JA Equipment Leasing, creating a comprehensive network of transportation, warehousing, brokerage, and fleet maintenance services. JA Logistics, established in 2001, manages more than 300,000 square feet of warehouse space across facilities in McHenry, Waukegan, and Elk Grove Village. Meanwhile, JA Nationwide provides brokerage services across the continental United States, while JA Equipment Leasing supports the company’s growing fleet operations. 

Beyond business operations, Shane and The JA Group remain deeply committed to giving back to the community. From participating in local parades to supporting veteran initiatives, community involvement is a core part of the company’s culture.

His dedication to both business excellence and community impact exemplifies the collaborative spirit that continues to drive McHenry County forward.
