MCEDC Member Spotlight: Kevin Thurston, Vice President and Commercial Lender at Home State Bank
With more than 25 years in the banking industry, Kevin Thurston has built a career centered on helping businesses grow and thrive. As Vice President and Commercial Lender at Home State Bank, Kevin partners closely with local business owners to understand their goals and provide financial solutions that help bring their vision to life. His consultative approach, rooted in listening, guidance, and long-term partnership, has made him a trusted resource for companies across McHenry County.
Kevin began his career after graduating from Western Illinois University in 2000. He joined Bank One, which later became Chase Bank, where he spent 16 years developing a strong foundation in retail banking, branch management, licensed banking, and ultimately commercial banking—his professional passion.
Seeking a more community-focused environment and greater work–life balance while raising his young sons, Kevin transitioned to community banking with Golden Eagle. In 2019, he joined Home State Bank, advancing his career while remaining closely connected to the community he calls home. With roots dating back to 1915, Home State Bank has served McHenry County for over 105 years, reflecting a longstanding commitment to local businesses and residents alike.
At Home State Bank, Kevin works as a commercial lender, partnering with business owners on projects that promote job creation, real estate development, and long-term economic stability. Through his day-to-day work, he plays a direct role in fostering sustainable growth and economic prosperity across McHenry County.
MCEDC Involvement
Kevin’s commitment to economic vitality extends beyond the bank. Kevin joined the MCEDC Board of Directors in 2022, driven by a desire to actively promote economic development and collaborate with leaders who are equally invested in the county’s future. In 2026, he serves as Secretary of the Board, stepping into a greater leadership role to help advance our mission of attracting, retaining, and expanding businesses for the greater economic vitality of the county.
“I enjoy the opportunity to serve with a diverse group of leaders who share a sense of pride in McHenry County and are driven towards improving economic vitality,” Thurston said.
Kevin’s connection to McHenry County runs deep, living in the county since 2001. Outside of work, Kevin is a devoted husband to his wife Anneliese and proud father to their two sons. Kevin has dedicated his time coaching youth baseball for over 10 years.
Through both his professional work and volunteer leadership, Kevin remains committed to strengthening the local business environment and supporting a vibrant, resilient McHenry County economy.
