D-155’s Health Careers Training Lab is coming to life

We love it when a plan comes together.
Community High School District 155 hit the ground running with the $1.5 million Advance McHenry County grant it received to build a Health Careers Training Lab at Crystal Lake Central High School.
Starting next school year, district students will be able to train to become state-accredited certified nursing assistants to help meet a crucial and growing need in our hospitals and long-term care facilities.
District 155 shot a brief video so we can see this idea come to life and learn what it will mean to the community and to a new generation of youth looking to enter the job market – click on it to watch!

Northwest Herald notices county’s re-hot manufacturing internship

The Northwest Herald had an awesome write-up in its June 18 weekend edition about the summer manufacturing internship program made possible by an Advance McHenry County grant!
Click here to read it; it’s behind the newspaper’s paywall, but the newspaper is a local business that should be paid for its product like any other.
McHenry County allocated $717,300 to McHenry County College and the Manufacturing Pathways Consortium to create a 10-week, paid work program to expose high school students and recent graduates to local manufacturing career opportunities.
Thank you to the Northwest Herald for showcasing this program and telling some of the stories of our manufacturing professionals of tomorrow!

Children younger than 5 now eligible for COVID-19 vaccine

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have expanded eligibility for the Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines to children six months to 5 years old.
The Pfizer vaccine is a three-dose course, while the Moderna vaccine is a two-dose course. While both are safe and effective in young children, the CDC encourages people with questions to speak with their child’s pediatrician.
The McHenry County Department of Health offers the vaccine at its Crystal Lake and Woodstock clinics; visit bit.ly/MCDHCOVIDVaxLoc for clinic times or to schedule a vaccination in advance. A list of additional vaccination locations throughout the county and Illinois can be found by visiting www.vaccines.gov, or by texting their ZIP code to 438826 or by calling 800-232-0233.

County liquor ordinance amended to help agritourism, craft businesses

New changes to the McHenry County Liquor Ordinance will not only help the hospitality industry continue its recovery from the pandemic, but also help foster a growing craft alcohol industry in McHenry County.
Under the updated ordinance, agritourism businesses can get a 31-day license for seasonal events, and eligibility for a wine license has been expanded to brewpubs and distilleries.
The fee for an outdoor patio liquor license has been reduced from $500 to $100 – and what’s more, the County Board decided to refund the difference to 23 businesses that had already paid!

Advance grant will fund Rosecrance youth mental health program

A $353,947 grant from Advance McHenry County will help Rosecrance address the mental health needs of young children.
The County Board earlier this month approved the grant, which will fund the creation of an intensive outpatient therapeutic treatment program for children ages 8-12 who are experiencing acute distress.
The grant was one of six approved this month by the County Board; the board has approved 20 grants since January, totaling almost $14 million of the nearly $29.9 million in American Rescue Plan Act funding it intends to invest directly into infrastructure capital projects, workforce development and jobs programs, nonprofit agencies, special districts, and local governments.
