Property Assessment Notices Are Now Online

Commercial property owners in McHenry County should be aware of an important change to the property assessment process.

Beginning this year, McHenry County is no longer mailing property assessment notices for properties that are adjusted only by the annual equalization factor. Instead, assessment notices are now available online through the McHenry County Property Tax Inquiry Portal.

Property owners can view their assessment information by visiting:

https://mchenryil.devnetwedge.com

On a computer or tablet, select your property and click the “Property Assessments Notice” link. On a smartphone, access the same information through the three-line menu icon in the upper-right corner and select the Assessments tab.

Stay Informed About Assessment Publication Dates

Assessment notices are published on a township-by-township basis throughout the year. Once a township’s assessments are published, property owners have a limited timeframe to review their information and, if necessary, file an appeal with the McHenry County Board of Review.

To avoid missing important deadlines, property owners are encouraged to sign up for email and text alerts through the McHenry County Assessments Office website. Notifications will be sent when assessment notices are published for your township.

A Reminder About Assessments

An assessment notice is not a property tax bill. Your property assessment is used to determine the taxable value of your property for future property tax calculations. Assessment notices also identify any exemptions currently applied to the property and provide information about other exemptions that may be available.

Why the Change?

McHenry County transitioned to online assessment notices to reduce costs and improve efficiency, saving taxpayers an estimated $65,000 annually in postage expenses. Physical notices will continue to be mailed for newly assessed properties, re-evaluations, and qualifying farmland properties.

For more information and to sign up for assessment notifications, visit the McHenry County Assessments Office website.

Don’t wait for a notice in the mail. Check your assessment online and stay informed about important review and appeal deadlines.
