WGN Radio features Woodstock in its “My Hometown” segment

WGN Radio returned to McHenry County to feature Woodstock in its monthly “Your Hometown” segment!

You can start by clicking on the video above to watch a 3-minute overview of the segment, in which WGN spends a day visiting a town to profile the people, places and institutions that make it special.

The video just scratches the surface of all the spots WGN did; radio personalities highlighted the Woodstock Opera House, the Gavers Barn Dance, Holzlager Brewing Co., and more. Our friends at Real Woodstock complied a list of links to all the clips, which you can find here.

This is WGN Radio’s second visit to McHenry County; it featured Crystal Lake last year. Thank you for coming out, and we hope to host you again soon!

MCC Job and Internship Fair taking place in April

If you’re looking for a job or know someone who is, McHenry County College is the place to be April 19.

The college is once again hosting a Job and Internship Fair; the event takes place from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at MCC, located at 8900 Route 14, in Crystal Lake. The event is free, and job seekers can click here to register to attend.

Whether you’re seeking full-time or part-time work, or an internship, dress to impress and bring copies of your resume. Organizers are also encouraging attendees to create a free account on the MCC Hire a Scot job website, which you can find here. Also, if your wardrobe is a little lean on professional attire, don’t worry – MCC can help you with that, too. Click here to learn more.

If you’re an employer looking to attend the event to hire people, email careers@mchenry.edu to be notified when employer registration opens.

March Madness, meet the IMA’s Makers Madness

Before you start thinking about your brackets for NCAA March Madness, you can help decide which Illinois manufacturers make the Illinois Manufacturers’ Association’s annual Makers Madness competition.

Nearly 250 products made by Illinois manufacturers were nominated for this year’s competition, but that would be one heck of a big bracket to fill out, so the list needs to be narrowed down to 16. You have five days left to visit makersmadnessil.com and vote for your favorites to make the cut; you can vote up to five times a day through the March 5 deadline.

The first-round voting takes place March 7-17 to winnow the 16 down to eight, so keep returning to vote until the Final Four championship from March 21-16.

By the way, McHenry County’s very own Jessup Manufacturing is one of the competitors for its anti-slip tapes.

Tax help available for lower-income and senior residents

Low- to moderate-income families, and older adults, can seek free assistance to file their 2022 federal and state income taxes.

The IRS Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, the AARP Foundation Tax-Aide Program, and the Ladder Up Tax Assistance Program, provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals in select locations statewide.

Click here to learn more about each program; eligibility is limited by income, disability and other factors.

Registration open for Crystal Lake Independence Day Parade

The Crystal Lake Independence Day Parade is open to registration for float entries.

If your business or civic organization is looking to participate, click here to register, and to read a list of everything you’re going to need. The deadline to register is Thursday, June 1.

The parade, one of McHenry County’s largest and most signature parades, steps off at 1 p.m. Sunday, July 2.

Organizers are looking for parade marshals to ensure the event goes smoothly and safely – interested volunteers can call 815-459-1300.

County’s signature St. Patrick’s festival returns to McHenry

Everybody’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day – and because it falls on a Friday this year, the annual McHenry Sham-ROCKS the Fox festival is going to be a three-day bash!

This year’s festival begins at 5 p.m. Friday, March 17 at Miller Park, with live music, food and green beer until 11 p.m. On Saturday, March 18, the Fox River in downtown McHenry gets dyed green at 10 a.m, with the annual parade stepping off at noon. And as always, the event ends Sunday, March 19, after a day of family-friendly entertainment with a fireworks show.

You can learn about the bands, the parade route, and so much more by clicking here.
