Illinois brings celebrity power to new tourism campaign
Award-winning actress (and Illinois native) Jane Lynch is lending her stardom to help Illinois tourism continue its recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
She features in the Illinois Office of Tourism’s new campaign, “Middle of Everything,” that highlights Illinois as the center of culture, food, history, architecture, nightlife and natural wonders. The $30.3-million campaign is airing on nationwide cable, as well as 20 media markets across Illinois and seven neighboring states.
Click on the video above to watch one of the commercials, and click here to learn more about the campaign. And Jane, if you’re reading this, we’d love to show you around McHenryCounty – drop us a line!
Tourism and conversation come together for summer fun
Get healthier, enjoy the great outdoors, support our local businesses, and qualify for a prize basket – what’s not to like?
They’ve compiled a checklist of 14 local businesses and conservation sites. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to visit at least 10 of them by the end of October.
If you do, besides getting fresh air, exercise, and enjoying great local food and fun, you will be entered in a drawing for a McHenryCounty Made gift basket.

Disability Job Fair takes place tomorrow
The Disability Job Fair is on for tomorrow!
The fair, which is free and open to job seekers with any type of disability, takes place from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday at the McHenryCounty College Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane, McHenry.
Job seekers should dress like they would for a job interview, and bring copies of their resume to network with county employers who will be there, and ready to hire. If transportation is an issue, click here to learn about the MCRide countywide paratransit service!
The grant, approved April 19 by the County Board, will help New Directions build a six-unit, 12-bed affordable housing unit in the county for people who have successfully transitioned out of its sober living program.
Click here to learn more about the grant, and to learn more about McHenryCounty‘s forward-thinking initiative to directly invest tens of millions of dollars in federal COVID-19 relief funding into projects benefiting our communities.

Bob Blazier Run for the Arts celebrates 25 years
A quarter century ago, a 5K race was created and named to honor Bob Blazier, and his unparalleled lifetime list of accomplishments for the people of Crystal Lake.
“Mister Crystal Lake” – a nickname well-earned on account of his 60 years of community service – asked that the proceeds of the race benefit the renovation and rededication of what became the Raue Center for the Arts.
The annual 1 mile or 5K run/walk to benefit the Raue, which kicks off at 8 a.m. Sunday, May 1, is celebrating its silver anniversary this year. Today’s the last day to register online, which you can do by clicking here; after that, you can register by calling 815-356-9010, ext. 14, or you can sign up the morning of the event.
