Watch the 2025 State of the County Address

McHenry County Update

From the Chairman

Thank you for taking the time to read the March edition of the McHenry County e-newsletter!

Every February, at the County Board Committee of the Whole meeting, it’s the Chairman’s privilege to deliver the State of the County Address. Every year brings an opportunity to highlight McHenry County‘s many accomplishments from the previous year, and there was a lot to be proud of in 2024. We made huge strides in developing the county economy and workforce, improving access to public health and workforce housing, increasing public safety, improving our infrastructure, and more.

We’ve embedded this year’s video address above – just click on the picture to watch it on the county YouTube channel.

Spring is just around the corner – stay warm, and I hope your children enjoy a wonderful spring break.

Warmest regards,

Mike Buehler
Chairman
McHenry County Board

Township primaries force pushback of early voting start

The start of early voting for the April 1 consolidated election has been rescheduled from March 7 to March 17.

The reason for the change is the timing of the Feb. 25 primary for contested Republican races for Algonquin, Grafton and Nunda township offices. The last day to count primary ballots under state law is March 11, and primary results must be finalized before early voting for the consolidated election can begin.

Voters in the April 1 election will choose their representatives on city councils and village boards, school boards, township offices, park districts, library districts, community college board trustees and fire protection districts. Be sure to vote and make your voice heard!

Early voting will be available between March 17 and March 31 at a dozen locations across McHenry County – you can find a complete list of locations and dates and hours of operation by clicking here. People wishing to vote in person on Election Day must do so at their assigned voting precinct; they can also vote at the McHenry County Election Center at 410 S. Eastwood Drive, Woodstock, which is a universal polling site.

If you wish to cast your ballot on Election Day at your assigned polling place, you can double-check its location by calling 815-334-4242 or by using the polling place locator on the county clerk’s website at www.mchenrycountyclerkil.gov; the locator also can generate a sample ballot so that you can see every race and referendum that you will be asked to help decide.

We want your feedback on Community Development grant funding

The McHenry County Community Development Division needs your input to prioritize how its federal housing funding is allocated.

The division is in the process of drafting its new Consolidated 5-Year Plan to help shape the future of our communities. You can help by taking a moment to complete a survey to share your priorities for the county‘s federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG), and Housing Investment Partnership (HOME) grant funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

Your input is vital in guiding these allocations. Community Development is looking for participation from county residents and stakeholder agencies – the community member survey can be found here, and the stakeholder survey here.

If you prefer a PDF version of the survey, click here; printed versions also can be picked up at the Community Development Office, 667 Ware Road, Suite 208, Woodstock.

County judges visit McHenry County schools

The courts were closed on Lincoln’s Birthday, but judges with McHenry County‘s 22nd Circuit Court spent the day visiting McHenry County schools as part of the Illinois Judges Association’s annual Judges Go to School Day program.

The annual program encourages judges to take advantage of court holidays to visit schools to read books to young kids and talk about the court system with older students and answer questions.

Thank you to Judges Tiffany Davis, Christopher Harmon, Kevin Costello, Carl Metz, Justin Hansen, Suzanne Mangiamele, Jennifer Johnson, Mark Facchini and Michael Zasadil for taking the time on the court holiday to connect with our kids. And thank you to Woodstock Community Unit School District 200, Crystal Lake Elementary District 47 and Community High School District 155 for having them over!

You can learn more about the event by clicking here.
