The McHenry County Coffee and Tea Trail Returns!

May 20, 2025

The McHenry County Coffee and Tea Trail is back!

If your day isn’t complete without a cup of joe, take heart – the McHenry County Coffee and Tea Trail is returning starting June 1!

Now expanded to 15 participating local coffee and tea shops, the trail gives you an opportunity to sip local, try new establishments, and win a prize.

The rules for completing the trail are simple: download the Naturally McHenry County App, check in at each coffee and tea shop you visit, and then collect the prize of a bag of locally roasted coffee when you hit all 15. To learn more and download the free app, click here.

By the way, if locally brewed beer and distilled spirits, Bloody Marys, or Mexican cuisine are more up your alley, check out other trails here.

Memorial Day events to be held throughout McHenry County

McHenry County residents will be coming together this weekend to honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our nation.

Planned events include parades in Crystal Lake and Woodstock, ceremonies in Richmond, Spring Grove, Huntley and elsewhere, and more, including the “Field of the Fallen” in Cary where the names of Illinois’ fallen soldiers will be read throughout the holiday weekend. You can learn more about these events by clicking here.

Are you graduating from McHenry County College and planning to continue toward a four-year degree through MCC’s University Center? There’s a new full-tuition scholarship available, but you don’t have a lot of time to apply.

The new Ervin J. LeCoque University Center Scholarship will annually award a full tuition scholarship, currently up to $28,000 per year, to one student. Applications are due Wednesday, June 11, and you can apply by visiting www.mchenry.edu/scholarships.

There are a number of other scholarship opportunities for MCC students – click on the link to check them out.

McHenry County College opened the University Center last year, partnering with Aurora University, Northern Illinois University, Southern Illinois University, and Roosevelt University, to offer four-year college credit courses. Students can get a four-year degree in a growing number of fields without having to leave McHenry County. To learn more, visit www.mchenry.edu/ucenter.

Leadership Greater McHenry County relocates to Old Courthouse

Our friends at Naturally McHenry County have a new neighbor at the Old Courthouse Center.

Leadership Greater McHenry County, after 18 years at American Community Bank in Woodstock, moved to the Old Courthouse Center on Woodstock Square earlier this month. Founded in 2004. LGMC is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to educating and inspiring community leaders to build a stronger future for McHenry County. The organization’s graduates can be found making a difference in businesses, civic organizations, charities, classrooms and governments countywide.

Visit www.leadershipgmc.org to learn more about the organization and why it matters.

It’s almost time for strawberry picking!

Don’t let these cooler temperatures that blew in this week fool you – strawberry picking season is almost upon us!

Whether you’re new to McHenry County’s you-pick berry farms, or you’re an old pro just looking for starting dates, our friends at Naturally McHenry County have put together a guide to picking strawberries and links to area strawberry farms – you can begin your adventure by clicking here.

We’ve written so far this spring about strawberries and fresh asparagus, but that’s the tip of the iceberg – late spring and summer in McHenry County mean fresh raspberries, green beans, blueberries, sweet corn, and other farm-fresh produce. McHenry County is home to many family-owned farms growing the freshest produce you’re going to find anywhere – click here for a list of farms and farm stands, and click here for a list of local farmers’ markets.

Rock out with the Huntley summer concert series

Huntley’s summer concert series is bigger and longer this year!

The 2025 concert series has been extended to nine shows, starting June 10 and lasting through Aug. 5. Also, the shows now last two hours instead of 90 minutes.

Each concert takes place from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays on Huntley Town Square, and admission is free!

The July 1 and July 22 concerts are also donation drives for the Grafton Food Pantry, so bring personal care products or paper goods to help the less fortunate.
