Up to $30,000 in housing relief available for eligible homeowners
The Illinois Housing Development Authority will begin accepting applications in April for housing help through its Illinois Homeowner Assistance Fund.
The fund will provide up to $30,000 in free assistance per homeowner to help prevent mortgage delinquencies or foreclosures as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The money is paid directly to the mortgage servicer, taxing body or other approved entity.
At nearly 600 members, the chamber is well on its way back to its pre-COVID membership, Chamber President Molly Ostap said. The chamber has welcomed seven new members in a two-week period in February alone, and averages three to four ribbon cuttings a month – some to welcome new businesses, others to recognize expansions and anniversaries.
“We’ve had a lot of growth, especially these past few months,” Ostap said.
The chamber also is putting an emphasis on building relationships as opposed to networking. It last year created McHenry‘s Next, a no-dues, no-commitment group aimed at cultivating the next generation of local business and community leaders.
“People are craving true relationship building – it’s the best way to do business,” Ostap said.

Johnathon McGee, deputy director for the agency’s Bureau of Regional EconomicDevelopment, presented information regarding the department’s new services and opportunities, and attendees had the opportunity to ask questions and ask DCEO for assistance regarding county projects.
Of particular interest to the audience was the announcement that DCEO is now able to provide the local match for certain projects that secure a promise of grant funding through the federal US EconomicDevelopment Administration, as well as the Reimagining Electric Vehicles program targeting Illinois businesses that build components for electric vehicles or their charging infrastructure.
More than 30 people attended, including local economicdevelopment leaders, municipal and county officials, and much of McHenryCounty‘s delegation in the Illinois General Assembly.
