McHenry County takes next step toward police training facility
Last December, Cary’s village government and police department moved into their new home. On Feb. 4, McHenry County officially took ownership of the former Village Hall to transform it into a new Regional Public Safety Training Center.
County government will convert the 20,485-square-foot government center and police station into a multi-jurisdictional training facility under the control of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office. The intergovernmental agreement includes acquiring land on the village’s Public Works property for an indoor shooting range.
The agreement helps fulfill a longtime need for the Sheriff’s Office and other McHenry County law enforcement agencies, which will have their own local training facility that will save time and money in reduced labor costs, liability, and travel expenses.
