Your Hometown - Crystal Lake

Crystal Lake featured in WGN Radio’s

‘My Hometown’ series

Crystal Lake has gotten the VIP treatment from WGN Radio!
The radio station chose Crystal Lake to feature for its monthly “Your Hometown” segment in which they spend a day visiting a town and profiling the people, places and institutions that make it unique and special.
They chose Crystal Lake in May, and all we have to say, simply, is “wow.”
Click on the video above for an awesome tour of Crystal Lake’s businesses, and click here to listen to some of their on-air stops, which included legendary local institutions such as the Raue Center for the Arts, Country Donuts, Nick’s Pizza & Pub, and more.
A big thank you goes to WGN Radio and the people of Crystal Lake who rolled out the red carpet for them. Congratulations are also in order for WGN, which is celebrating 100 years on the air this year!

It’s strawberry season (and a lot of other seasons, too!)

We’re blessed to have year-round access to fresh produce. But there’s just something special about locally-grown, fresh-from-the-farm seasonal fruits and vegetables.
With June here, fresh strawberry season is upon us. But not for long – it only lasts a couple of weeks because of their popularity. It won’t be long before summer brings us fresh raspberries, green beans, blueberries, and of course, sweet corn.
McHenry County is full of locally owned family farms offering fresh produce – both prepackaged and you-pick. Our friends at Naturally McHenry County have put together a list of when summer favorites come into season, and farms and farm stands where they can be bought. Click here to check it out!

American Veterans Traveling Tribute Wall coming to Harvard

The Harvard Chamber of Commerce and Industry is bringing the American Veterans Traveling Tribute Wall to town.
Harvard will be the only city in Illinois to feature all 211 panels of the traveling wall, which honors the dead from both world wars, Vietnam, Afghanistan, Iraq, the War on Terror, the Sept. 11 attacks, and other battles and tragedies.
The free display, accessible 24 hours a day, will be up from Sept. 8 to Sept 11 at Milky Way Park, 300 Lawrence Road.
Chamber President Crystal Musgrove has wanted to bring the wall to Harvard since she started 14 years ago.
“We wanted the entire wall – not just bits and pieces – to honor the fallen and educate the community about everyone who made that sacrifice,” Musgrove said.
The chamber is in need of volunteers to help maintain a 24-hour presence at the wall. If you would like to volunteer, email Musgrove at info@harvcc.net.

Workforce Network brings back in-office recruitment events

The McHenry County Workforce Network‘s in-office job recruitment events have returned.
Last week, Crystal Lake-based Express Employment Professionals set up a table at the network’s office to offer jobs on the spot for Brake Parts Inc., in McHenry.
The Workforce Network held regular recruitment events for employers for years at its office at 500 Russel Court in Woodstock, but suspended them with the COVID-19 lockdowns.
Employers and recruiting agencies can again set up in the Workforce Network lobby to seek workers. Interested businesses can call 815-338-7100, ext. 2771, or email workforcecenterRR@yahoo.com, to set up a date and time.
