MCEDC Member Spotlight: Peter Scholl, Owner of Scholl Construction
Peter Scholl has built his career in construction from the ground up. From reshaping vacant land to renovating existing spaces, he has always been captivated by the ability to create something entirely new. Early in his career, Peter honed his project management skills by supervising major residential and commercial developments across Northern Illinois before founding Scholl Construction in 2002.
Scholl Construction is a full-service company with three divisions: custom-built homes, extensive remodeling and additions, and commercial construction and remodeling. Known for its quality craftsmanship throughout Crystal Lake, McHenry County, and Northern Illinois, the company combines technical expertise with careful attention to client needs. As the owner and founder, Peter oversees Business Development, directs strategic initiatives, develops marketing strategies, and ensures quality across every project.
In addition to Scholl Construction, Peter owns Maintenance Matters, a company that provides comprehensive maintenance plans, handyman services, and small-scale remodels or repairs. Peter saw a need from commercial property owners and past and current residential clients for a company that could help with these types of jobs and also protect and enhance their property investments with expert care. Maintenance Matters can help take monthly, quarterly, or yearly maintenance off their plate and leave it to the experts.
Involvement in MCEDC
Peter’s involvement with the MCEDC began seven years ago when he was first introduced to the MCEDC CEO Peer Group, a confidential, peer-supported group consisting of senior executives and business owners to share leadership challenges, learn strategies, and lead more effectively. Meeting monthly with like-minded business owners, Peter found a valuable space to share successes, challenges, and ideas, a sounding board that helped him grow his own business while learning he is not alone in navigating business challenges.
Driven by a strong commitment to MCEDC’s mission to support the attraction, retention, and expansion of businesses across McHenry County, Peter joined the Board of Directors in December 2021. In 2026, he stepped into the role of Board Treasurer, a good fit given his experience in financing, goal-setting, and strategic planning. With over 23 years of experience running his own business, Peter brings insight and dedication to advancing the success of MCEDC and supporting economic growth and business retention across McHenry County.
Outside of work, Peter treasures time with family and friends and enjoys boating and being in the water. An avid reader, Peter can often be found with a book, magazine, newspaper, or even an instruction manual in hand. His ideal vacation? Anywhere unplugged, free from phones, email, and the internet. This balance of professional dedication, community involvement, and personal passion drives Peter’s approach to both his business and role with MCEDC.
“McHenry County has been my home for 44 years. I’m proud to live, work, and play in a community that supports businesses, manufacturing, and farming, while providing opportunities for our workforce,” said Peter. “My hope is to help the county expand affordable housing so residents can both build a career and enjoy life here.”
