Rooted in McHenry County for over 30 years, Colleen Roos, President of CMR Benefits Group and Chair of the MCEDC Board of Directors, has built a career and a legacy centered on supporting businesses, empowering employees, and investing in the community she calls home.
Colleen’s professional path began with a college major in Hospital & Healthcare Administration, initially intending to work within a Chicagoland health system. After spending 13 years with a benefits brokerage firm in Rosemont, her career evolved, leading her to launch her own agency, CMR Benefits Group, Inc.
CMR Benefits Group, Inc., incorporated in 1998, is an employee benefits brokerage and consulting firm that partners with employers to design competitive, cost‑effective benefits programs. The firm specializes in carrier negotiations, plan design, renewals, market benchmarking, and employee education, delivering customized health, dental, vision, life, disability, and voluntary benefits.
The firm is also known for balancing coverage quality, regulatory compliance, and cost control, helping employers support their workforce while managing long‑term sustainability.
As the President of CMR Benefits Group and a dedicated leader within our investor and Board of Directors community, Colleen brings experience, vision, and a passion for collaboration that continues to strengthen McHenry County’s business landscape.
Involvement with MCEDC
Colleen joined the MCEDC Board of Directors in 2022 and has remained actively engaged in advancing our mission. She served as Board Secretary in 2024 and Vice Chair in 2025. As of December 2025, the Board of Directors 2026 slate was approved, with Colleen voted in as the Chair of the Board for 2026.
Colleen and her husband, Scott, of 38 years, and their two children, Alex (31) and Lauren (22), have called McHenry County home for over 30 years. Outside of work and MCEDC involvement, Colleen enjoys boating, gardening, and interior decorating, activities that provide meaningful downtime and balance.
Looking ahead to 2026, Colleen is focused on strengthening collaboration between the Board, investors, and community partners to ensure McHenry County remains a strong, competitive, and attractive place for businesses and residents alike.
A key priority will be advancing MCEDC’s value proposition centered on Attract, Retain, and Expand (A.R.E), supporting existing businesses while positioning the County for sustainable growth.
When asked about the economic future of McHenry County, Colleen shares:
“Economic development happens when all parts of a society work together, making the whole better than just the sum of its parts.”
MCEDC is grateful for Colleen’s leadership, dedication, and commitment to collaboration as she steps into her role as Board Chair in 2026. Her experience, perspective, and passion for community will continue to help guide economic vitality initiatives across McHenry County.
