Close out summer with fun at the LITH Summer Sunset Festival!

August 20, 2024

Summer Sunset Festival returns to Lake in the Hills

Our children may be back to school or heading back soon, but summer isn’t officially over until the Summer Sunset Festival comes to Lake in the Hills.

The annual festival is three days of fun, food, events and live bands, and it sends summer off with a bang with one of the best fireworks displays in the county. Best of all, admission is free – the only costs are for food/beverages and the carnival.

The three-day Summer Sunset Festival starts at 5 p.m. Friday, Aug. 30, and goes strong through Sunday, Sept. 1 with the evening fireworks. Visit the festival website at www.summersunsetfest.com for a complete schedule of events, and follow the festival on Facebook for the latest updates!

County Clerk’s Office putting finishing touches on Election Center

The new McHenry County Election Center is just about ready to go!

Starting with the upcoming Nov. 5 election, the facility will be used to tabulate data from polling places, process vote-by-mail ballots, train election judges, serve as a polling place, and more.

Located three doors down from the Illinois Secretary of State DMV office in Woodstock, this new location will give our County Clerk’s Office more room and dedicated space to continue ensuring that McHenry County elections run smoothly.

If you need to register to vote, apply for a vote-by-mail ballot, or learn the location of your polling place or early voting locations, visit www.mchenrycountyclerkil.gov.

MCC looking for adult literacy tutors

Our friends at McHenry County College are looking for adult literacy volunteer tutors to make a difference in the lives of students.

Adult literacy tutors work one-on-one with students who are trying to improve their basic reading or math skills, or who are learning English. Besides helping students to learn a new language, tutors also assist with helping students learn the life skills they need to thrive in a new country.

If this sounds like your kind of challenge, visit www.mchenry.edu/volunteer and fill out the brief contact form to learn more.

Workforce Network hosting transportation job fair

If you’re looking for a job in the transportation field, mark your calendar for Sept. 13.

The McHenry County Workforce Network is holding its Fall Job Fair from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 13 at its office at 500 Russel Ct., Woodstock. Transportation-related jobs is the theme, and employers will be present to look for dedicated workers.

If you want to make sure you make the best impression you can, or you need to brush up on your interviewing skills, the Workforce Network is holding a preparatory workshop from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Both the job fair and the workshop are free. If you’re looking for a job or want to increase your skills to get a better job, the Workforce Network is an invaluable and free asset – learn more about it at www.mchenrycountyworkforce.com.
