McHenry County EDC welcomes new senior vice president

The McHenry County Economic Development Corp. has a new, seasoned senior vice president to help our business community grow and create jobs.

Ed Dvorak comes to the MCEDC with more than 30 years of experience in the private sector, serving in executive and leadership roles with companies such as Spalding Sports, Cadbury Schweppes, and international alcoholic beverage giant Diageo. He also spent six years advising and mentoring early-stage sports startup businesses.

Last year, he volunteered to work with the Community Foundation of McHenry County; besides opening his eyes to the world of nonprofits, he worked on a project that partnered him with MCEDC President Jim McConoughey.

“After about eight months working together on this project, and getting to know Jim better and what his plans are for the MCEDC, I jumped at the opportunity to join his team,” he said.

MCC job fair scheduled for April 19

The McHenry County College Job and Internship Fair returns to campus on Wednesday, April 19.

The free event takes place from 1 to 3:30 p.m. at the college, 8900 Route 14, in Crystal Lake. More than 90 employers will be in attendance; you can find the complete list by visiting www.mchenry.edu/jobfair. The event is open to everyone – you don’t have to be an MCC student or alum to participate.

Whether you’re seeking full-time or part-time work, or an internship, dress to impress and bring copies of your resume. Organizers are also encouraging attendees to create a free account on the MCC Hire a Scot job website, which you can find here.

Disability Job Fair takes place tomorrow

The McHenry County Workforce Network and McHenry County College are again teaming up with the State of Illinois to help people with disabilities get into the workforce or find new jobs.

The Disability Job Fair, which is free and open to job seekers with any type of disability, will take place from 9 to 11:30 a.m. tomorrow (Wednesday, April 12) at the MCC Shah Center, 4100 W. Shamrock Lane, McHenry. You can register by clicking here.

Job seekers should dress like they would for a job interview, and bring copies of their resume to network with county employers who will be there, and ready to hire.

State awards millions to county, local governments for paths and trails

The state of Illinois announced that four county governments will receive just under $9 million to help fund biking and walking paths under the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program.

McHenry County, through its Division of Transportation, will receive $3 million to build new sidewalks and shared-use paths along Randall Road, in Crystal Lake and Lake in the Hills. Huntley also will receive $3 million to build a shared-use path along the north side of Kreutzer Road.

The City of McHenry will receive more than $2.5 million to build a sidewalk and shared-use path along both sides of Route 31 between Routes 176 and 120; and Crystal Lake will receive $233,688 to create a shared-use path along Oak Street, north of Route 176.

Downtown Crystal Lake hosts Ladies Night Out this Thursday

Downtown Crystal Lake is again hosting a Ladies Night to showcase downtown businesses.

The event takes place from 5 to 8 p.m. this Thursday, April 13. Check-in is at the Raue Center for the Arts, 26 N. Williams St., where participants can pick up a map of participating stores. Visitors can check out niche shops and stop for drinks and meals at downtown restaurants.
