McHenry County Police Social Work program launched

McHenry County’s Police Social Work program is up and running!
The groundbreaking program, developed in partnership with the Sheriff’s Office, the McHenry County Mental Health Board, and the Community Foundation for McHenry County, supports police officers with full-time police social workers to help bridge the gap between law enforcement and the county’s network of social service providers.
The Sheriff’s Office created a police social work program in 2017 in an effort to alleviate law enforcement’s responses to mental health-related calls for service. This expansion now includes the police departments of 15 county municipalities, as well as the police departments of McHenry County College and the McHenry County Conservation District.

Open House scheduled for McHenry Moves 2050 plan

The McHenry County Division of Transportation is holding an open house next week for people to learn more about the McHenry County Moves 2050 Long-Range Transportation Plan.
The two-hour open house starts at 5 p.m. Tuesday, June 21 in Conference Room B of the County Administration Building, 667 Ware Road, Woodstock.
Attendees can learn more about the plan to examine how people and goods move in our area, and develop solutions that will make it easier for everyone, and everything, to get where they need to go.
Besides attending the open house (or a to-be-announced virtual presentation for those unable to attend), people are encouraged to visit mchenrycountymoves2050.com to learn more about the plan, and to take a transportation improvements survey by clicking here.

 

More early voting locations open in McHenry County

Ten additional early voting locations have opened in McHenry County for the June 28 primary election. People registered to vote in McHenry County now have 11 sites to cast their ballots early, regardless of where in the county they live.
A complete list of locations, and their dates and hours of operation, can be found here. Early voting will continue through June 27.
Voters who intend to cast their ballots on the day of the primary must do so at their assigned polling place, or at the County Clerk’s Office, which serves as a universal voting location. Because a number of precinct boundaries and polling places have changed since the last election, voters are strongly encouraged to visit the County Clerk’s website to double-check their voting location. You can find your polling place, as well as generate a sample ballot for your races and candidates, by clicking here.

 

Green Street Cruise Night returns to McHenry

Summer in McHenry means the return of hundreds of classic and show-quality vehicles cruising the downtown.
That’s right – Green Street Cruise Night is back. Every Monday night through Oct. 10 (except for Independence Day and Labor Day), Green Street comes alive with cool classic cars, music, food and more.
Admission is free, but a $5 donation to help support local nonprofits is appreciated.

Registration is open for McHenry County Fair exhibitors

Registration is open for exhibitors for this year’s McHenry County Fair!
You can find a list of the exhibitor categories and rules by clicking here; the link to the application portal can be found here.
The County Fair returns to the County Fairgrounds from Aug. 2 to Aug. 7, so save the dates! Be sure to visit their website at mchenrycountyfair.com, and to follow the fair on Facebook and Instagram.
Registration is also open for the talent contest, which is open to anyone under 21 who lives or goes to school in McHenry County – click here to register.

 

Summer park festivals coming to Woodstock and Richmond

Woodstock and Richmond are both holding their signature summer events in the coming days.
Woodstock’s four-day Summer in the Park kicks off from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, June 22 with a city band concert and ice cream social at the Park in the Square. A vendor fair, balloon creations and a family movie are scheduled for June 23, and the fun shifts to the Woodstock Water Works aquatic park on June 25. The festival wraps up Sunday, June 26 on the Square, including food and drink, kids’ games, a petting zoo and pony rides, bounce houses, and other family fun.
Richmond in the Park lasts from 11 a.m to 4 p.m. this Saturday, June 18, at Cotting Park, 10807 Partridge Trail. Events include face painting, a balloon artist, exploring emergency vehicles, and other games and activities.
