State of the County Address

Assisting the business community, and moving forward after the COVID-19 pandemic ends, is one of many themes that McHenry County Board Chairman Mike Buehler will tackle in his annual State of the County Address tonight.
Besides reviewing the success of county programs to augment federal and state business assistance such as the Paycheck Protection Program and Illinois Business Interruption Grant, Chairman Buehler will discuss moving forward with economic development initiatives such as the completed I-90 interchange in Marengo, and expanding the county’s high-speed Internet system.
The address, which will last about 18 minutes, will start shortly after the County Board convenes at 7 p.m., and you can visit county government’s Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter pages to watch once it begins.

It’s Not Too Much to Vax!

There are a thousand reasons to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
To protect your elderly parents. To get our children back to complete in-person learning where they belong. To end restrictions on our businesses once and for all.
If you’ve already gotten vaccinated, thank you. If you haven’t, please sign up – there are multiple ways you can do so.
The McHenry County Department of Health and other governmental entities use the state’s COVID-19 vaccine registration page at https://covidvaccination.dph.illinois.gov. You also can receive the vaccine through retail pharmacies – a list of participants, and their locations, is available by visiting http://coronavirus.illinois.gov, or the MCDH vaccine locator page at http://bit.ly/MCDHFindVaccine.
People without Internet or who need translation services can schedule an appointment through the MCDH Call Center at 815-334-4045, or by calling the Illinois Department of Public Health hotline at 833-621-1284. If you have a neighbor or relative who needs assistance, please help them make an appointment or help them contact the Call Center.
Visit these sites frequently, as new appointment options are posted regularly, but fill up quickly – in Illinois everyone age 16 and older is eligible.
Recipients who are 16 or 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian who will be required to sign the consent form at the appointment. Proof of age (a state-issued ID or birth certificate) will be required and verified at the appointment.
If you take a picture of yourself celebrating your vaccination (without showing your vaccination card, please), hang onto it – we’ll be asking you to help us stress the importance of getting inoculated. Stay tuned!

 

Business help is out there

There’s a lot of help out there for small businesses trying to make it through the pandemic. It can be daunting trying to nail all of it down to see what all you and your business may qualify for.

Visit our website at www.resumemchenrycounty.com for a list of links to help you navigate the small sea of federal and state assistance that’s available for you, such as the Paycheck Protection Program, the new Shuttered Venue Operators Grant, and federal Economic Injury Disaster Loans.

 

McHenry Outdoor Theater Reopening

If you had to come up with a list of the 10 most iconic and unique McHenry County attractions, you’d be hard pressed to find many more prominent than the McHenry Outdoor Theater.
The theater is reopening for the summer season on April 30 and May 1 with a double feature of the movies “Twister” and “Jaws.” What’s more, the theater is no longer under capacity limits, and all 800 of its spaces will be open – however, moviegoers must socially distance and be masked when purchasing concessions.
In last week’s edition, we heralded the return of the Woodstock Farmer’s Market to the Square for the summer season, and the reopening of the Illinois Railway Museum. Here’s hoping that the reopening of the unique attractions that make McHenry County a great place to live becomes a regular feature in our newsletter!
As an interesting aside, according to the theater’s Facebook page, McHenry County has been under a tornado warning the past four times they showed “Twister,” so make sure your phone can get weather alerts just in case.

 

Don’t forget the new tax deadline!

Don’t sweat it that April 15 came and went last Thursday – the federal government and the State of Illinois pushed back tax day to May 17.
The delay not only recognizes the continued hardships that Americans continue to face because of COVID-19, but also gives the IRS and Treasury Department breathing room to process stimulus checks and the changes to the tax code made by the American Rescue Plan Act signed into law last month.
Having said that, mark your calendars, and don’t forget!
Also, if you need more time past May 17, you can request a filing extension to Oct. 15.
