Woodstock wins a $3M T-Mobile 5G ‘tech-over’
Congratulations to the City of Woodstock for winning a nationwide contest for a $3 million technology makeover from T-Mobile!
T-Mobile will outfit a portion of the city – most likely the Square – with 5G wireless infrastructure. On top of that, the city won $200,000 in grant money, and T-Mobile will refurbish a baseball diamond in one of Woodstock’s city parks. And the cherry on top of the sundae of prizes will be a spring concert by Grammy-nominated, multi-platinum country duo Florida Georgia Line.
Woodstock beat out thousands of other towns for the inaugural T-Mobile Hometown Techover, and already had received $50,000 in grants for being named a top 10 finalist in the spring.
City leaders are hopeful that the 5G infrastructure will become a basis for future expansion of the network to other parts of town. This foundation, like the laying of high-speed fiber between McHenry County College and Woodstock through the McHenry County Broadband Fiber Network Consortium, can only serve to help expand our economic base and expand job opportunities.
Again, congratulations, Woodstock!
