Changes coming to PPP loan forgiveness

The US Small Business Administration is finalizing changes to its Paycheck Protection Program loan forgiveness platform to make it easier to apply.
The platform changes, according to reports, aim to simplify the forgiveness process for lenders, and will give certain borrowers the chance to apply directly to the SBA for loan forgiveness; presently, all borrowers must apply directly through their lender.
A rollout of the changes could happen as soon as next week, according to reports.
More than $780 billion in PPP loans were distributed by the SBA to more than 8 million businesses, most of which will be seeking to have them forgiven if they met the requirements.

Vaxxing up our teens

McHenry County school districts are working hard to ensure as close of a return to normalcy as possible when kids return to school in the coming weeks.
Our children last saw “normal” in March 2020 – before the lockdowns, remote or hybrid learning, and isolation from friends. The best way we can help our schools is to get vaccinated ourselves, and to get children 12 and older vaccinated.
Even when in-person learning returned, children faced quarantine because someone around them tested positive. Keep your children in school – and prevent them from being sidelined in their extracurricular activities – by scheduling a vaccination with the McHenry County Department of Health or the provider of your choice.
You can find a list of vaccine locations by clicking here.
Illinois last week hit an important milestone with the announcement by the Illinois Department of Public Health that more than half of Illinois residents are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19. More than 70 percent of Illinois residents have received the first dose.

County municipalities eligible for $38 million in ARPA funding

McHenry County municipalities are eligible to receive a total of $38 million in COVID-19 relief under the American Rescue Plan Act.
The state announced last Thursday that 1,250 municipal governments that have not already received ARPA aid can apply for their share of the $742 million allocated for Illinois under the act, which became law in March.
Municipalities must have fewer than 50,000 people to qualify. They can use the funds to recoup losses directly related to pandemic response or to assist the financial recovery of homes and businesses. The funds also can be used to invest in building, maintaining, or upgrading water, sewer and broadband infrastructure.
Eligible governments have until the end of September to apply through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for the funding. The first half will be distributed 30 days after approval, and the other half will be disbursed a year later.
More information can be found here, and a full list of eligible municipalities and the amounts for which they qualify can be found here.
McHenry County last year entered into an agreement with the McHenry County Council of Governments to work together to explore improved government cooperation to increase efficiency and lower costs. MCOG Executive Director Chalen Daigle, who also serves as the county coordinator, will be reaching out to eligible municipalities to assist them as needed to take advantage of the funding.
