Hiring? Job hunting? Read on!

With COVID-19 capacity restrictions and (almost all) mask mandates behind us, we want to see McHenry County’s businesses spread their wings – not just making up for lost time, but coming back better than ever.
But as any good business owner knows, a business’s most valuable asset is its workforce. Businesses are looking for workers, as any glance at the headlines or at all the “help wanted” signs that have sprouted up throughout McHenry County and Illinois, can tell you.
If you’re looking for work or know people who are, or if you’re an employer looking to fill your ranks with qualified, skilled, and motivated workers, keep reading.
If child care issues are holding you back from returning to work, the first article in this week’s edition is right up your alley.
McHenry County is back in business, and Resume McHenry County is there for you if you’re looking to get back to work!

Child care assistance

Is the need for child care holding you back from seeking full-time or part-time work, or are you an employer whose staffing needs are being affected by child care availability? There’s a McHenry County agency that can help you.
4-C – that stands for Community Coordinated Child Care – is a not-for-profit agency that for more than 45 years has sought to advocate for quality, accessible and affordable child care. The agency helps families by offering resources such as child care financial assistance, food assistance, family support, and help with nursing, social work, mental health and other special needs.
To learn more, visit them online at www.four-c.org, or call their McHenry office at 800-848-8727.

Post jobs or search for them on the MCC Job Board

McHenry County College is one of our crown jewels when it comes to workforce training. But did you know that they make it easy to get their skilled graduates connected with local employers?
Hire a Scot, the MCC job board, allows employers to post jobs for not only MCC students and alumni, but also for any McHenry County resident who registers – and registration is absolutely free.
For more information, visit their website at www.mchenry.edu/hireascot.
Also, as we highlighted in last week’s edition, there are more than 100,000 jobs posted at the free Illinois Job Link website at illinoisjoblink.illinois.gov.

Mercyhealth breaks ground on Crystal Lake hospital

An official groundbreaking last week kicked off work on Mercyhealth’s new Crystal Lake hospital.
The $105 million hospital at Route 31 and Three Oaks Road is set to open in summer 2023. Services will include a 24/7 emergency room, private inpatient suites, intensive care and surgery suites, and diagnostic services. Medical center services will include family medicine, orthopedics, sports medicine, cardiology, cancer care, chronic pain and other services.
More than 129,000 county residents live within five miles of the location, according to the Crystal Lake Chamber of Commerce.
Mercyhealth estimates that the construction will create 350 new construction jobs and that another 134 permanent jobs will be created in the Crystal Lake community with the hospital’s opening. Mercyhealth has seven hospitals and 85 primary and specialty care locations serving northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

McHelp offers free mental health help at your fingertips

We must always keep in mind that the COVID-19 pandemic’s toll isn’t just measured in lost jobs, lost wages, and lost profits. There’s also the human cost.
For more than 50 years, the McHenry County Mental Health Board has been there to faithfully address mental health and developmental disability needs – and it’s never been easier for people who need help to reach out for it.
One of those ways is through MCHelp, a free anonymous app that allows you to confidentially discuss your concerns for you, or your friends and loved ones, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to licensed professional mental health counselors.
You can learn more about this free service, and how it can help, by clicking on the video link above, and you can download it from Google Play here and from the Apple App store here.

Wonder Lake Water Ski Show Team returns to the water

With COVID-19 restrictions lifted, Resume McHenry County will continue to highlight the return of McHenry County’s iconic attractions.
Summer on the lake means many things to many people. For the people of Wonder Lake, it means one of the best shows in McHenry County every Friday night.
For more than 60 years, the Wonder Lake Water Ski Show Team has wowed with free shows every Friday night between the Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. The 160-member team, ranging in age from 5 to 65, entertains audiences of all ages and has won at least five national championship tournaments.
While COVID-19 shut down the 2020 season, they’re back for 2021! The show is free to the public, but the team is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and actively seeks donations to cover expenses.
To learn more, visit their website at www.wonderlakeskiteam.org or follow them on Facebook and Instagram.
