County Board to vote on first Advance McHenry County allocations

Tonight, the McHenry County Board will vote to approve the first three project allocations under the Advance McHenry County program!
Two of the awards will further job development for young adults seeking careers: $1.5 million is proposed for High School District 155 to start a new nursing program, and $1.69 million is proposed for McHenry County College for a job training program for high school graduates to pursue degrees in manufacturing and skilled career positions. The third allocation of $500,000 to the Child Advocacy Center of McHenry County will help fund its mission to offer services to victims of child abuse.
These proposals fit the mold of the thoughtful and impactful ideas the County Board had in mind when it created Advance McHenry County to put $59.7 million in federal COVID-19 relief funding from the American Rescue Plan Act to work in the community.
You can learn more about the Advance McHenry County program by visiting www.mchenrycountyil.gov/advance. The County Board’s monthly voting meeting starts at 7 p.m., and you can stream it live or watch it later by clicking here.

Please get vaccinated – our hospitals are strained worse than ever

Hospitalizations in Illinois for COVID-19 continue to break records.
Our hospitals are running out of beds, and our health care professionals are overworked and reaching their limits. Many hospitals are canceling procedures.
The vast majority of the people being hospitalized for COVID-19 are unvaccinated. The sad thing about this crisis is that it doesn’t have to happen – there’s a very easy fix.
Please visit www.vaccines.gov and schedule an appointment to get vaccinated. If it’s been more than six months since you’ve received the vaccine, schedule your booster shot.
We hailed our healthcare workers as heroes throughout this pandemic. It’s time for us to step up and be heroes for them.

Please give blood – supplies are critically low

The strain the COVID-19 surge is putting on our health care workers, we’re sorry to say, isn’t the only crisis they’re facing.
The American Red Cross, which supplies almost half of the blood supply for the nation’s hospitals, is experiencing the biggest shortage in a decade.
The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly hampered donations; lock downs forced the cancellation of blood drives throughout 2020 and 2021, and illness and staff shortages continue to cause problems.
Please consider making the time to donate blood – you can do so by clicking here to make an appointment, or to have the Red Cross contact you when an appointment is available.

Welcome to the new director of the Huntley Chamber of Commerce!

Congratulations to Nancy Binger, who took over Jan. 3 as executive director of the Huntley Area Chamber of Commerce!
Binger said she hopes to focus on memberships, events and marketing, as well as ensuring that the Huntley Chamber does all it can to connect businesses with customers, and with each other.
The Huntley Chamber, founded in 1987 to support the business climate and improve the village’s quality of life, boasts 265 members. Binger said she hopes to reach the pre-COVID membership of 300.
Prior to her new role, Binger served as executive director of GiGi’s Playhouse, a national network of Down syndrome achievement centers. She worked for more than 17 years at Judson University in Elgin, ending her time as vice president of enrollment, athletics and strategic planning.
